I don’t know if you’ve read the news today but it seems, the man who wrote the classic and ever famous song “You Light Up My Life” sung by Debby Boone in the 1970’s was arrested for raping women he met through Craigs List.. I have to tell you, this hurt me personally.. You’re probably wondering how can that be well you see, I was 9 years old when this song came out and, when it came out in early 1979 my mom took me right away to the store so I could buy the record album. Yes a VINYL record.. When I was a little girl I was very much the music lover. At 6 years old my mom could turn the radio to any station and I could sing every song and know all the words. I loved music. Still do today but, I digress. When this song came out in early 1979 I gave it to my dad.. We would listen to it at night and I would sing to him along with Debby. Well, that same year in September my Dad died unexpectedly. As you can imagine at 9, I was completely frightened and lost so I one night about 2 weeks after I lost my dad I sat in my room listening to Debby Boone’s album and wrote her a letter. I can’t remember all of what I put in it but I do remember telling her that I was a fan and my daddy had just died and I remember telling her how much I missed him and I was scared etc.. Well Ms.Boone took the time to sit down and hand write back to this scared and very sad little girl. She told me all about when her grandma died and how much she missed her and how she felt..To this day that is the ONLY bright spot I can remember of that entire year of my life. She gave me a memory to hold onto of her enormous kindness and most of all she gave me a song that will forever remind me of my dad.. So without further ado, please enjoy the video.
